Mexico’s Northern Canyon Country
Depending on the level of interest, we may lead a DIY “escorted” trip to northern Mexico this year. These aren’t commercial trips — although we charge for our expertise, organization, and logistical support — this is not a tour package.
In general, the Rio Aros/Yaqui is big and wide with relatively easy rapids, good camping, pretty scenery, and an abundance of wildlife. There are some beautiful side canyons to hike and a few have swimming holes where you can cool off. With its low gradient and pool-drop character, the rapids are intermittent and rarely over Class III.
This is a great river for the intermediate to advanced boater looking for a beautiful multi-day run. If you are interested in joining one of these trips, contact us and we’ll see what we can put together for your group.
Our Floater’s Guide to the Rivers of the Yaqui Watershed (Mexico) is now available in print form or as an e-book. Find it on Amazon.
